UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS PROJECT ANNOUNCED13 July 2015
THE UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS IS PLANNING A £14 MILLION REFURB AND IS CURRENTLY SEEKING A CONTRACTOR TO UNDERTAKE THE PROJECT
it is the union building which is being refurbed, it is 5 storeys and 11,000m2 in size. First built in the late thirties, it has been extended and refurbished on a number of occasions since then.
The works comprise of a full refurbishment of the Riley Smith Hall, Raven Theatre, Mine Bar, Pulse Bar, the Lounge and Common Room, and retail area including the formation of a four storey atrium using an existing light well. A new south entrance structure is also to be built.
Work is expected to start in March 2016 with planning permission processed earlier in 2015.
An 18 month construction time frame has been given with the expected handover to University expected in Autumn 2017.
