ARCHITECT WANTED FOR CANTERBURY UNIVERSITY01 September 2015
CANTERBURY CHRIST CHURCH UNIVERSITY IS ON THE HUNT FOR AN ARCHITECT TO DELIVER THE FIRST PHASE OF ITS REGENERATION MASTERPLAN
The winning team will draw up detailed plans to transform the city’s two hectare former prison – which once housed the infamous Kray twins – into a new student accommodation complex.
BDP was chosen to draw up the masterplan – covering 185 buildings across four campuses in the Kent region – last year.
The Grade II-listed prison – which features three wings, a chapel, hospital, gym, library and workshops – will form part of the university’s North Holmes Campus nearby.
First opened in 1808, the facility closed two years ago after being singled out as one of the most overcrowded prisons in the country.
The deadline for requests to participate is 25 September.
